The more experiments are done with found footage, the less significance the images seem to contain. For true culture jammers like the Emergency Broadcast Network and the Lucky People Center, this is no problem. On the contrary, without a moment's hesitation they lose themselves, and with them the viewer, in the media's language game. Like modern Don Quixotes they carry on a primitive guerilla war on several fronts against the power of television. LPC use piratical practices to expand an average evening's TV viewing into an impressive, repetitive audio-visual drone that has a lot in common with the hypnotic beat on today's dance-floors. Their videos are more than simple registrations of their "performances" : they employ the same deadly strategies on tape. Their images gnaw at the innards of the media, create autonomous zones, construct squats within the media themselves. |
