Taking as his starting point scenes shot in the streets of Dakar, this student has tested the rendering of "black" skins in varying light conditions on different colour negatives, by means of a comparative study of films and a number of filter tests. Each sequence presents a group of three film types (Agfa, Fuji, Kodak), balanced either for daylight or artificial light and in the same sensitivity range. There were two guiding principles : taking up a position in variable light conditions, and adopting an economy similar to that employed in contemporary West-African film. This is a document that does not wish to prove anything, not even the accidental disappearance of a black person in the shadow of his bench on the market. |
