Territory(ies) deals with the notion of territoriality. By way of significant dates in Algerian history, the film explores and questions areas of political, religious and social belonging. By mixing and confronting pictures from archives, news pictures and fictional images, this document offers a personal view of the violence on both sides of the Mediterranean. We see Algeria and its "ancient" violence, the violence of conquest, the violence of colonization, the violence of decolonization, the violence of independence and the violence of politics. In the Western world we see its violence of "hypermodernity" : the violence of dissuasion, the violence of pacification, the violence of consensus, the violence of virtual communication. And terrorism and its violence of the "media" : "exported" and "over-mediatized". |
